Valentine Baby

Yesterday was Anna's 1st Valentine's Day! Happy Valentine's Day, little baby. This year our Valentine's Day was even sweeter!

My mom and dad were up this weekend. We had a lovely visit and they enjoyed Anna every minute. I had to work until 7:30 pm on Valentine's Day. Was so wonderful to come home to family - Brent, Anna, Mom & Dad. Anna went to bed about 9 pm and the "adults" had an awesome dinner and fun evening.

We all went to Panera Bread for lunch before my parents had to head home. Anna did so good on our outing. She's getting to be such a big girl! She's easier to take places now and is content just to look around and be held a while. She really liked to watch all the people at Panera. Such a different environment than at home - noisy and so many people to see. You wonder what she must be thinking!

Big news .... Today was the first time I took Anna into a public restroom to change her diaper. Most of you know that I'm sorta a germ-phobe. Not sorta .... I am one. I'll say it .... "I am a germ-phobe!" Proud of it? Not really. But I just can't help it. I can just see all the little germies crawling around laughing and waiting to invade my body. And not just my body anymore .... now they're after Anna! And how can I be a nurse and be a germ-phobe? I think that's why I'm a germ-phobe. Nursing has ruined how I look at lots of things .... but we won't go there or I'll ruin you, too! So anyway, back to my public restroom experience. I tell this story all in good fun, I'm not really as insane as I sound (or am I??). I had Anna and diaper bag in tow. We used the little pull-down changing table .... the germ filled and disgusting thing that it is. I put my own changing mat down for Anna to lay on. She's almost too long for it - what to do when she's too long for it? Then her feet will touch the yucky germie changing table! Horrors! I'll have to either use two changing mats or bring new socks for her. I changed her diaper as fast as I could. Meanwhile, I'm trying not to let Anna touch the sides of the germy table. If only she would fold her hands nicely and keep them on her belly, then we wouldn't have any problems. But no, she would rather touch everything including the laughing germs waiting to jump onto her hands. So after she's changed, I wiped off her hands with a wet wipe cursing any laughing germs. Back to our table we went and I wiped her hands again, just for good measure!

My mom says this too shall pass and I won't worry so much as time goes on. And I know she's right. I won't be able to protect her from every germ .... oh how I would love to, though. So, someday I'll give up my germ-phobe ways. Maybe not all of them, but I can't be wiping Anna's hands for the rest of her life. But what really scares me is when Anna will have to use a public toilet. Oh dear......

Hope you all had a great weekend and Happy Valentine's Day to everyone out there that we love!

Love, Laura

I love the way you have listed "Anna's firsts". Such a great way of marking those important milestones. Glad she had a special Valentine week-end. I'm sure your parents enjoyed her as much as she enjoyed them. Loved the story about the bathroom. I remember when the kids were little they didn't have those changing tables. You had to take them to the car to change them. I don't know maybe that was better, at least less germs.
Thanks for the call, glad you liked the outfits.
Give Anna hugs and kisses from us.
Love, Kathy

Bellzie has actually put things from the bathroom floor ie candy, in their mouth, before I could get to them yelling "no yucky, don't touch that is yucky" And the child has never been sick once. Hmmm I do recall someone telling me "dirt don't hurt, God made it" Just apply that to germs.
