Turning 30

I turned 30 on December 15th. The Big 3-0! One of those milestone birthdays, this time leaving my 20's behind. It's not nearly as fun saying that I am thirty, rather than a twenty-something. 20 years old seems young with opportunities knocking. 3o years old seems...kinda old! I know, I know...30 is hardly old. But, it ain't 20. So, I have decided that 30 is the new 20. Still with plenty of opportunities and, in my case, certainly plenty of adventure to come.

My 20's brought me many blessings. A short list includes...
  • A college experience resulting in great friendships, hilarious memories, way too much studying, and an earned college degree.
  • My marriage to Brent on July 24, 2004. I married my love that day. At Last! We started our lives together. Our first year of marriage holds some of my most special memories of us together.
  • A three-year Florida lifestyle. Picture it...two U-Hauls, a cat and dog in tow, and all of our belongings traveling south (and then north again).
  • Buying our first home and settling in to a new life in Michigan. The midwest welcomed us home and to a new, lovely community.
  • The birth of our daughter, Anna Marie. She is the greatest and most beautiful gift. After an exciting and thankfully fairly easy first pregnancy, we welcomed our little girl into this world and into our lives. And she has so blessed the last two years of my 20's....by making small moments amazing and by making me a mother.
And so, start my 30's. I am expecting again and am waiting patiently to become a mother to a new little life. Could there really be any better way to start? There is so much to look forward to. And there will be challenges. Including the goal of potty training Anna before June! And maybe a toddler bed for Anna? And learning to peacefully care for two children. And to still grieve the loss of my brother. To learn how to continue my life without Scott, to remember him well, and maybe try to make sense of it all.

I think I am up for the task of being 30. I had pretty fantastic 20's. I can't wait to see what the next 10 years will bring.

This December 15th was well spent and I enjoyed a very special birthday. I was greeted with a breakfast of my favorite bagel shop goodies and hot chocolate. And then a trip to the mall with Anna and Brent for lunch and a trip to see Santa. And THEN I came home to a surprise visit from my mom! She completely surprised me, which was so wonderful and special. We had a great evening and ordered in one of my favorite Italian restaurant dinners. I talked to my dad on the phone a couple of times and also received lots of birthday wishes from my family and friends. A great way to start my 30th year!

Decorating for Christmas

Last week we decorated the house for Christmas. We had the best little helper this year! Anna loves Christmas! This year she is really enjoying everything - Santa, all the decorations and lights, and even seeing the snow.

We went to a Christmas tree lot to pick out our tree. It was a perfect evening for it - cold, but not too cold, and tiny snow flakes fell as we walked around. The guy at the lot gave Anna a candy cane, so she was very happy!

Anna loved helping unpack all of our Christmas decorations. She loves jingle bells, Christmas books, singing Frosty the Snowman, and our Christmas tree.

The Christmas season always brings feelings of joy. But there is nothing like the joy of a child. Anna bring us joy x 100. She is our biggest, best, and favorite Christmas blessing.

What a week!

Last week we started our basement remodel! Can you hear the hammers pounding and saws sawing?! It's pretty noisy around here. We hired a company for the remodel...adding a bedroom/office, bathroom, and a family room and play area for the kids. Come June when Baby arrives, we will lose the guest room upstairs for the new nursery. The new bedroom downstairs will serve as a guest room and an office space for Brent when he is working from home. The new bathroom will add to our current 1 bathroom house. A bathroom for guests and for Anna when she is older and wants to hog the mirror. And the new family room will be great for a much needed play area for Anna and Baby. Right now our dining room is half dining room and half play room, which is very crowded and causes us to often eat dinner with toys under our feet. The goal is that the basement will be done before Christmas, fingers crossed!
Basement before.

Basement currently. Studs up for bedroom and bathroom walls. And yes, a lovely hole in the floor for bathroom plumbing.

In the mean time, Anna and I have been mostly hanging around home while the "worker men" (as she calls them) work. We have been finding fun things to keep us busy. Here she is having fun with play dough and cookie cutters.

I was invited to a cookie exchange last week. We were asked to make 8 dozen cookies to share and exchange. That's 8 dozen. Eight, count them, eight. So 8 I made. But it was a joint effort - my mom found the recipe and Brent helped me every step of the way. 8 dozen cookies is not an easy task, but quite the accomplishment when all said and done. The party was fun and I came home with 8 dozen cookies made by my friends. Any one want a cookie?? I made Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. 8 dozen of these babies....

Here's to basements, play dough, and crinkle cookies. What a week!!

Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving trip to South Bend was wonderful. Full of family and plenty of fun for Anna. We really enjoyed our few days to visit, relax, and to be thankful.

Here are a couple of pictures of Anna watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This was the first year she payed any attention and she enjoyed watching bits and pieces. She really enjoyed the Sesame Street float and Santa Claus. She was tickled pink to see her Sesame Street friends and she was so excited to see Santa that she had to salute him with her own!

Caffeine and a 10 hour nap

This is what I need most....caffeine and a 10 hour nap. If only I could have these two things! Imagine how much better I'd feel....perky and lively with energy to spare. Well, maybe not all of that. But at least I'd feel better with a tad more pep in my step. I am tired. It's par for the course, I'm afraid, since I am, after all, preggo. But ugh, I am tired! At least the 1st trimester queasy torture has passed. I'm feeling better in that regard, however still have some food aversion. Mostly anything that's green does not appeal much to me. This is regretful, since I'm admittedly not eating as many vegetables as I should be. This is much different for me this time around. When I was pregnant with Anna I had a bit of queasiness, but nothing like this time. I ate so well with Anna and was so good about being healthy and getting enough fruit, veggies, and calcium. I'm not doing as well this time....my poor little Baby #2 is longing for leafy greens and antioxidants! Everyday I have a new goal for more vegetables. I've yet to impress myself with reaching this goal. BUT, I do often surpass expectations for napping! I have really been good at resting. No problem there. But while I nap, my house stays messy and the laundry piles. *sigh* Caffeine.... more naps .... and a maid ....

We'll be headed to South Bend in a couple of days to spend Thanksgiving with our families. There will be a big void this year, as Scott will not be here with us. The first Thanksgiving without my brother. I miss him so deeply at moments that it takes my breath away. Scott always made the mashed potatoes for our family Thanksgiving. He was really good at it! He was the potato man. I'll take over the mashed potato tradition this year, however I know they won't have the same special-ness to them. Through my grief, I often think 'how can I be thankful this year?' I'm not thankful to be without Scott. I'm not thankful that my parents lost their son and that I lost my brother. I'm not thankful to be hurting every single day and to fight tears through difficult smiles. I'm just not. However my Aunt Joan told me that when she looks at things through her wordly eyes, things look worse and confusing. But when she uses her spiritual and faithful eyes, things make more sense. So, when I use my spiritual eyes I can be thankful that Scott is with Jesus. And that he isn't hurting anymore and he is safe and comforted. I am thankful that he is happy. I am thankful he is looking down at my family. And he is with us. Scott is in our hearts and memories forever. I am thankful he is my brother. And that my parents and I, and so many others, were blessed by his life. And we have the rest of our lives to remember and love him. So, I am thankful for that. And I am thankful for my strong and loving parents, who I adore and cherish. And of course I am thankful for my own little family....my dear husband who completes me, my darling Anna girl, and my tiny littlest one that I am blessed to be carrying. I am thankful for each of my extended family members and friends, who often lift me up with love. With all of these things, how can I not be thankful? So, Happy Thanksgiving to you. Let's count our blessings.

"I heard it!"

I had an OB appointment today to check on Baby #2. I am 11 weeks along already! The appointment was quick and routine. Everything looks great and we were able to hear the baby's heart beat! I took Anna along to the appointment today and she was well behaved and patient. However, she did not like when I had to lay on the exam table. So, she sat on the table next to me and then she liked being a part of the action. It took a few minutes to find the baby's heartbeat, which is typical since the baby is still so small. Once they found it, we were able to hear the little "woosh-woosh" sound of the little heart beating. And Anna said, "I heard it!!" What a moment - to hear the first sounds of my newest little one and to hear my "big girl" exclaim with happiness that she heard it, too.

Brent wasn't able to come to the appointment today since he had a meeting for work. But he surprised us and was able to meet us at the doctor's office just as we were leaving. We wish he could have been there to hear the baby, but he also took joy in hearing Anna re-cap the appointment. She told him, "Check her belly" and "Baby in there". While I know she doesn't really understand what is going on, she is now getting a tad more interested. Since the appointment, she has lifted up the edge of my shirt twice to take a peek at my belly. She must be wondering what all the fuss is about!

Brent took us out to Panera for lunch. Then we walked downtown a bit and we found a Thanksgiving dress for Anna. A perfect little family afternoon!

Now Anna is napping. Brent is back to work, but is at home here in his office. I have to take the dog to the vet and then have to be at work at 6pm. Busy day! But with many blessings.

**GASP!** A VAN!

Check out that shiny new 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan. In MY driveway!

Yep, we got a new car. A VAN! A total Mom-ride. But! It's the coolest, not-so-van-like model out there. And it drives fabulous and hello room! Anyone need a ride?? I'm offering! I have the space! Bring a friend!

Our 1999 Honda Civic took a dump on us and it was costly to fix. We were looking to get a bigger car anyway, especially now with baby #2 on the way. We need the room, especially for all the traveling we do. We towed my beloved light blue little Civic to the Honda dealership and a few days later drove away with a sparkly black roomy minivan.

Vans get a bad rap. Kind of nerdy. Dorky moms drive vans. I had to swallow hard a few times myself before making the final decision to go with the van. I'm here to stand up to the stigma and say.... I'm not dorky. And I'm a mom. A soon-to-be mom of 2. And I think my van is pretty cool looking. AND, while you (the mom looking down her nose at my van) struggle to get your kids into your SUV and fit the stroller and the groceries....I'll be laughing all the way out of the parking lot, since the kids and I are already locked and loaded into our super spacious and totally practical (but not so nerdy) van.

We make our first South Bend road trip this weekend and are pretty excited about it. No more packing the trunk to the gills. No more squeezing in with bags under our feet. Heck, I may pack an extra bag....just because!

Anna the Ballerina!

Happy Halloween! Anna had a busy and fun Halloween week. The highlights were story time at the library (she got to wear her costume), Zoo Boo, playing with Halloween stickers, M&Ms and suckers. Trick-or-treating was not Anna's favorite this year. She did not like it and we only made it to one house! We were surprised that she didn't like it after all the fun she had "practicing" at home all week. So, we handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters and decorated pumpkin cookies at home with Anna. Trick-or-treating aside, Anna was the cutest ballerina in town!

Enjoying a Halloween treat...she loves suckers!

Sitting pretty! Striking a ballerina pose.

Decorating Halloween pumpkin cookies.

At Zoo Boo! She really enjoyed this!

Enjoying library story time...Halloween style.

Pumpkin, Skeleton, Ballerina

The week before Halloween is upon us! Halloween is fun again...little costumes for Anna and this year her little voice will be saying, "Treat-or-Treat!" This will be Anna's third Halloween and will probably be her most fun yet. She enjoys all the neighborhood decorations, our porch pumpkins, and practicing trick-or-treat with Daddy.

Halloween #1. Anna the pumpkin! We spent the evening on the porch handing out candy with our neighbors. Anna peeked out at everyone with her little pumpkin hat, wrapped up in a blanket, with her candy corn sleeper on underneath.

Halloween #2. Anna the skeleton! Anna is not one for big puffy, frilly costumes. No thank you, she said. A little pink skeleton suit was just perfect! She had fun making the rounds to our favorite neighbors and collecting a few goodies. She was barely walking, but so proud of her few steps while holding hands. Cutest skeleton on the block.

Halloween #3. Anna the ballerina! Stay tuned.....

First Peek at Baby Hartsell #2

I had my first ultrasound yesterday, October 18th. Baby's heart is beating away! What a special sight. A little life living inside of me. Baby looks great! Very tiny still, so it is hard to make out much in the ultrasound picture. The head is pointing down to the left. The baby is a little younger than we first may have thought, so the due date may be June 5th. So, May 30th or June 5th ... give or take. Either way, a little healthy beating heart was all I needed to see. Looking good, Baby! It was wonderful to see you.

Our weekend was busy and fun. We had a great time out at Notre Dame and ended the day with a win against Western Michigan! The weather was perfect. Anna enjoyed the band and clapped her hands to the ND fight song. So cute! Here are some pictures from our ND afternoon.

A funny story from the weekend ... Anna has a little stuffed monkey named Bongo. He is in two of the pictures above. Anna loves Bongo. She has several "buddies"....all stuffed animals of some sort. Her night-time and comfort favorites are Ki-Ki (I did a post on Ki-Ki a while back) and a little green and pink blanket. She has a little dog that she got for her birthday that she loves. She named him Patrick and he's climbing his way to the top of her buddy list. But, Bongo ... he's Anna's favorite take-along buddy. Bongo goes most places with Anna. Okay, he goes everywhere. She loves him and he has experienced a lot of adventures in his little monkey life. So, of course, Bongo went to Notre Dame with us. Anna's first time to campus and Bongo's, too. Well ... Bongo came up missing. He was lost! Notre Dame ate Bongo. Long story short ... we couldn't locate the missing and beloved Bongo. Quite a tragedy in our family and I'm not kidding! Tragic because he's BONGO and he goes everywhere with us. Tragic because we could imagine the tears and very sad question from Anna, "Bongo go??", once she realized he was missing. Thankfully, Grandma kept her busy and occupied so she didn't have time to miss Bongo much. And my dad ... the hero of the day ... found a replacement Bongo at the store. He bought 3 Bongo's that afternoon. Hahahaha! We have 2 replacement Bongo's now. My dad presented Anna the new Bongo and told her that he got a face lift, since the new Bongo is much cleaner and fuzzier than the first Bongo. She took to new Bongo right away - she didn't even blink an eye. So, to our first and very loved Bongo, lost somewhere out there - we hope someone picked you up and you have a new exciting home. Maybe someone's new tailgaiting mascot. And to the new Bongo, welcome to our happy home and you are in for a treat! Thank goodness we found you. And I noticed that your left foot is a bit dirty already today after playing outside this afternoon. You're going to fit in just fine.

Our bags are packed...sorta

We're packing up for a trip to South Bend today! This weekend brings....tickets to the ND game on Saturday and an appointment with a great photographer for Anna's two year pictures on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be in the 60's and sunny. Perfect fall football weather and perfect for an outdoor photo shoot with Anna. Wishing everyone a happy weekend! Monday I have an appointment with my OB for an exam and the first ultrasound. Maybe if the Irish win, our little baby will be waving an ND flag. : ) Now off to finish packing!

Big Party & Big News

Last weekend we celebrated Anna's 2nd birthday in South Bend with lots of our family and friends. We rented a picnic pavilion at St. Pat's Park and had a great time! The weather was a little cool, but warm in the sun. We shared hot food and drinks and a yummy birthday cake. Anna enjoyed her party and really enjoyed seeing everyone. Opening presents was her favorite part. She kept saying, "New present?!" The party was a hit and it was worth all the planning, decorating, and cooking. We thank our family and friends so very much for coming out to wish Anna a happy birthday. Brent and I certainly think she is something to celebrate!

At the party, Brent and I shared some big news with our family and friends. We are expecting Baby Hartsell #2 in May! I am pregnant and due May 3oth! It was so special for Brent and I to tell the big group at the party. It is very rare (almost never) that so many of our friends and family from both sides are all together. So while celebrating Anna's 2nd year, we announced the coming of our 2nd baby. We have been blessed with a new little life to anticipate and dream about!

I spoke to many other family members and close friends on the phone after the party to further share the news. Everyone is very excited and happy for us. It's fun this time to think of Anna as a big sister! Maybe the baby will be another little girl or maybe a little baby boy this time? We will all have to wait till May...we won't find out what the baby is...we waited with Anna and it was such a special moment to find out that she was a girl in the delivery room. Just like we felt with Anna, whether the baby is a girl or a boy, a healthy baby is our only wish.

I am starting the 8th week of pregnancy. I have been feeling pretty well overall, but a little green-around-the-gills the past few days. It is fun to go back and read my first few posts on the blog to remember how I was feeling with Anna. So far, I think I feel much the same. Maybe a little "greener" this time? Thank goodness for 7-UP. To the inventor, I am forever indebted to you!

I started my blog back in 2008 to share my thoughts and feelings during my first pregnancy. We were living in Florida then and it was a nice way to share long distance with my family and friends. Now we're in Michigan and still long distance, just not nearly as far! And here, we feel at home. In our first little house, with our first darling little girl, and expecting our second little miracle. How blessed we are. And so thankful. Stay tuned...a brand new chapter for the Hartsells had begun!

I will end this post the same way that I ended my very first post. Thank you, Lord Jesus for this gift.

Anna Turns Two

On Sunday we celebrated Anna's 2nd birthday! Our baby turned two...and she is turning into quite a lovely little girl. My parents were here for the weekend to help celebrate her birthday. We spent a fun afternoon at the pumpkin patch and had a cupcake party at home. Anna requested cupcakes with sprinkles and we delivered. She was very happy with her special treat. She even told us after her nap that day that she had a dream about sprinkles (except she calls them "frinkles"). Next to the sprinkles, I think Anna's favorite part about her birthday was the "Happy Birthday" song. She sang "Happy Birthday to you!" all day long and we sang it to her at least 25 times, per her request!

Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch.

The best way to see the orchard!

Hay ride with Grandma & Grandpa.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Anna!

Make a wish!

Yummy cupcake!

It's good to be a two year old!

Anna had a fun day turning 2! This coming weekend we will travel to South Bend for a big party with both sides of the family and friends. We are looking very forward to celebrating Anna even more with everyone who loves her.

It is hard to believe we are parents of a two year old. Time flies when you're having fun ... and boy, are we! We are so very blessed by this wonderful, smart, and beautiful little girl.

Looking back and then at today.

I wrote this about Scott in my 9/8/08 blog entry. I was 36 weeks pregnant with Anna and we just finished painting her room, with Scott's help....

  • As most of you know, my brother Scott and I have a great brother-sister relationship. I've always thought so. I just want to say that it's been really nice the past few weeks seeing him and spending more time with him. Brent and I really enjoyed his company while he was here for the painting extraveganza. Scott has been very supportive and attentive - always asking me if I need help with this or that. He offers me rides to the grocery store, offers to help dry dishes, and makes sure I'm not working too hard. I don't even know if he realizes it, but I sure have appreciated him. He's a great friend to me - he makes me laugh, lends me CD's, and we share funny words only we really understand (ie. sisso-sacer). He's a great brother and I love him for it.
And love him, I did. And still do.

Anna and I had a fun and busy day today. Library story time started again for the fall and she just loves it. 30 minutes of songs and stories with other kids her age. Today she played 5 different instruments and learned the song "Where is Thumbkin". I appreciate story hour so much - it helps me remember these fun little songs to teach her at home, too. After story time, we went to our friend Leah's house for a play group. Anna had fun and shared very well today. Teaching and learning to share is not easy when we're almost 2! She had a great time, came home and ate a huge lunch, and took a nap. She is up now and reading books with Brent. It's either left overs for dinner or maybe we'll treat ourselves to a dinner out! I'm thinking maybe the latter.... :)

Remembering Scott

It is with a heavy heart that I write this blog post. Since most of my blog readers are family and close friends, you most likely know this. My brother, Scott Richmond, passed away on July 22, 2010. I could not return to my blog without mentioning him. My blog has always been dedicated to happy times and happy moments. It was never intended as a journal-type of situation for me to vent my troubles or frustrations. But this time, it is different. The loss of my brother has shaken me to the core and has forever changed the lives for my family and me. At moments it seems unbearable to have lost him. For me it is unbearable at every moment to think that I will never see him again. And, God willing, I have many more years on this earth. And for all of the years ahead to me to be without my brother... it is overwhelming.

I will share again what I read at the beginning of Scott's funeral.

"I would like to thank everyone for coming today in memory of Scott. For those of you who don’t know me well, I am Laura, Scott’s sister. I want to take this opportunity today to remember Scott in a special way. To remember him for the great man that he was. Scott was kind, thoughtful, incredibly smart, and funny. He loved his family deeply. And oh, how we loved him. He loved my mom’s cooking. He loved Notre Dame football, movies, and his cat Josie. Most of you probably have a favorite memory of Scott. Maybe – and most likely – for times that he made you laugh. I have favorite memories, too. He was only 16 months older than me and we were good friends growing up. I don’t remember fighting much – except when we would break my plastic headbands. We played board games and built Lego’s. His Lego houses were always much better than mine - the engineer in him even back then, I guess. He tutored me in math. He held my hand once when I was afraid. He teared up when he saw me in my wedding dress. He was there to hold my baby girl after the very first hour she was born. And we shared a deep love for our parents...for our Mom and Dad. Today, let’s remember Scott – not for his sadness – but for his life….for him….and for the life that we loved. Scott was our brother, son, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. We love you Scott and we will miss you every day."

I like to think about Scott up in heaven. That he is happy. And looking down at me smiling. That he is watching over me and all of my family. And especially watching over Anna. I like to think that she has a special angel in him.

Rest in peace, my brother. I love you, Scotto!

Father's Day, Farm, 4th of July

Here we are mid-July already! We have been having a great summer. Anna is 21 months old and is as busy, happy, and fun as ever. I wish I could bottle her up right now, she is at such a sweet age. And I wish I had more time to sit down and blog! But, I also wouldn't trade the busy, fun summer days that we have been having! There seems like a lot to catch up on, so here goes!

We celebrated a fun Father's Day with Brent this year. His 2nd Father's Day! Brent's mom and dad were here visiting, so Brent was also able to spend the day with his own dad. We started with a nice breakfast out and then spent an afternoon at the park by Lake St. Clare. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day and we enjoyed being outside. We finished the day with lamb chops on the grill, Brent's choice. Brent's gift from Anna was a electric blower for outside - now he can blow leaves and grass clippings to his heart's content. =) Anna is blessed to call Brent her daddy. She loves her daddy so much! The first word she says every morning when I open the door to her room is, "Daddy?" She always is hoping he'll be right behind me to play. They are best playmates - from hide-and-seek, "this little piggy" with Anna's toes, and marching around the house. He draws her fun pictures, sings songs, and teaches her new things. She is a lucky girl! I am lucky, too. Lucky to have Brent by my side as my husband and friend. And together we raise Anna. We're a pretty good team, I think. I couldn't do it without him.

We took Anna cherry picking this year. We had so much fun and are going to make it an annual event! We drove 3o minutes north to Westview Farm and Orchard. The trees were full of cherries to pick. The trees were dwarf trees, so Anna could reach the cherries. She took her cherry picking very seriously! She didn't pick many herself, but loved to put the picked cherries in the bag. And she carried the bag until it got too full and she told me, "Heavy!". The farm also had animals - goats, donkeys, and sheep. Anna really enjoyed the animals and even helped Brent feed some of them. We had lunch and ice cream there and bought homemade donuts to bring home. Brent made a cherry cobbler at home, which is now one of my most favorite desserts. I will look forward to it every year!

We spent a fun 4th of July weekend at home. Anna slept through the fireworks again this year! It just gets too late for her to stay awake for them and she slept straight through all the noise. Maybe next year she'll see them. We had a gorgeous weather weekend and were outside most of the time. Brent celebrated his 30th! birthday on July 1st and his gifts included a new patio table and a fire pit. We enjoyed both very much over the 4th weekend and had cook outs and late night fires with our neighbors.

Anna loves to play outside. Sometimes it does get too hot for her, but overall we have had great weather this summer. She loves to walk up and down the sidewalk in front of our house collecting leaves and acorns in her bucket. She also likes when we blow bubbles, draw with sidewalk chalk, play in her water table, and water the plants. She even likes to ride around in the backyard while we pull her in her snow sled from the winter! This is pretty funny and notice I said BACKyard for this activity! The faster I run and pull her, the harder she laughs. Can you picture this? She is probably not the first kid to ride around in a snow sled in the grass, but never the less. We have made a few trips to the baby pool with some of Anna's playgroup friends. In early summer we loved going to the zoo, but it has been too hot lately. Anna gets such a kick out of all the animals, especially the monkeys, otters, and penguins. We still go to the library frequently. They have story time every couple of weeks in the summer, which Anna adores. All of this equals a very fun summer so far!

Along with keeping busy at home, we have been making trips back and forth to South Bend. We have five - count them five - weddings this summer! Most of them are in the South Bend area, so we have been packing the car and making a trip back to IN. We have had great trips so far - seeing lots of family and friends. Anna loves to be with her grandparents, so she has no complaints. And she is a pretty good and patient traveler these days. We have been to one wedding so far for Brent's cousin. It was very nice and great to see everyone on Brent's side of the family. Here is a picture of the three of us at the wedding.

Otherwise on the home front, we are doing well. Brent started a new job in June. He is now a Project Manager at Houghton Mifflin, which is a big educational company. He is working on a project with the Detroit Public Schools and is implementing new curriculum programs and helping educate the teachers on the new programs and technology. Brent is very happy with the new job and it is quite a change from working in a school. He has been enjoying it so far and is excited about the project. One huge difference is that he doesn't get a summer vacation anymore. That was hard to give up, but an okay sacrifice for a job that better fits with Brent's career goals. One perk is that he is able to work from home when he isn't out doing trainings or at meetings. He has an office in the basement and it's been nice having him around more. As for me, I am still working every other weekend and some evenings. My job is fine and is often very busy, which makes the days go fast. And that's what I want - fast days so I can get back home to Brent and Anna!

Lots more summer left ... hope it's happy for everyone!

20 Month Old Hugs

Anna gives hugs now. Sometimes great big squeezes around the neck. I cannot tell you how much I love her hugs! She is the sweetest thing. And at 20 months old, everything Anna does she means it. She hugs because she loves. Before she can even speak the words (without being prompted), her hugs say "I Love You!" Her smiles have said so since she was a little tiny baby, but now it's her hugs. When she hugs me I hear, "I love you, Mommy!" And I love you, Anna ... oh how I do, baby girl.

Memorial Day 2010

Our All American Sweetheart =)

Happy Memorial Day! We took Anna to the Memorial Day Ceremony this morning held at the city circle in our community. Anna loved the band music and she clapped along and said, "Yay!!" We came home and Anna played outside until lunch. We had burgers and apple pie - very all American! Annie had grilled cheese =) It's great to be at home today as a family of three.

We are grateful today for all our American soldiers who fight for us and protect our freedom. Especially close to our hearts are my Army cousins, Phil & Michelle in Afghanistan. God bless them and keep them safe!
